Information for Users proposing to upgrade from Famtree v4 to Famtree5 -
it is very important that your read this before updating!

v5.00 or 5.01 to 5.02 see below)

Famtree5 is a complete re-write of the Famtree code, using Visual Basic.
It installs in a different way to Famtree v4.

The Famtree v4 program located itself in the 'Program Files' folder on your
hard disk, and many users save their data (gedcom) file(s) into the same
folder location. Famtree5, however, advises users to save new
files in their '(My) Documents' folder - but you can continue to save any
existing files in the same locations as before.

You do not need to uninstall Famtree v4 (you can have both v4 and v5 on the
same computer). However, if you do uninstall Famtree v4 (using Start
> Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) be sure to save a copy of your
data file beforehand (in case you inadvertently delete it too).

To download and install Famtree5, you will need to visit the Famtree download
page (link below) and, because it works in a different way, YOU MAY NEED
TO RE-ENTER YOUR PASSWORD TO REMOVE THE 40 NAME LIMIT ON FAMTREE after the
program starts. SO IF YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD, PLEASE
FOR A REMINDER BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD/INSTALL FAMTREE5.

Famtree5 has been re-written for compatibility with Windows 8.1 and 10 (and
it remains compatible with Windows 7, 8, and XP) - it also includes some additional
features (see the Famtree homepage). However,
if you can use Famtree v4 you won't have any difficulty in using Famtree5
without refering to the manual!

YOUR FAMTREE v4 DATA (GEDCOM) FILES REMAIN FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH FAMTREE5.
THEY SHOULD BE LISTED AT THE FOOT OF THE 'FILE' MENU (or by clicking
on the new 'My Files' icon) WHEN YOU FIRST INSTALL FAMTREE5 - SO YOU
SHOULD BE ABLE TO LOAD THEM EASILY.

If updating from Famtree5 v5.00 or 5.01 to
v5.02 you should simply follow the normal process for
downloading Famtree5 by
clicking here to
be taken to the download page. You should not need to uninstall
v5.00, or re-enter your password. In the unlikely event that you receive
the message 'You cannot install Famtree from this location because it is
already installed from a different location', you will need to uninstall
v5 (go to Start > Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Famtree5)
before being able to install v5.02.
